By Ned Stevens
Worked great for about 6 months. Held a constant temperature that was only 2 or 3 degrees off what the readout displayed. Then in the 7th month, I noticed the fan was laboring and the inside temp was getting higher. Been about a year now and it hasn't died on me yet but I don't think it has much time left. If you could get it for like $100, I would recommend it. But for what I paid, I don't plan on replacing it when it finally kicks and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. That being said, it's a much much better value then any other cellars I looked at that were twice the price or more and had terrible reviews.

While the description says it stores 8 bottles, either 750 or 1500 ml, it is a tight fit for whites, some reds did not fit, and champagne bottles will only fit if one rack is removed. In the picture it looks like the bottom rack is designed to accommodate fatter champagne bottles, but actually the unit that's shipping has 4 identical racks. The lowest temperature is 45F, not 39F. Those are the quibbles. The appearance is great, and it is extremely quiet. I like it so well, even with the demerits, that I bought another for better reds and dessert wines. The two units fit side by side on the kitchen counter, under the cabinets, with 1/4" to spare. After I bought the first unit, I happened to read a number of negative reviews, including the ominous ones about it breaking down within the first year. I sure hope that doesn't happen, because I like the unit. And those fat champagne bottles are still happy in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator.

My wife and I were excited about our Cuisinart CWC-800 purchase...up until we plugged it in. Neither of us is particularly noise sensitive, but this unit's fan motor is loud! We can hear it laboring away from the other side of our home.It isn't a grinding sound, nor is it necessarily that type of noise where you'd suspect a motor is on its last legs. There's just a noticeably loud whirring. Much louder than the whirring sounds emanating from the full-size refrigerators in the kitchen and the garage. Furthermore, the fan motor rarely cycles off. It's as if it struggles to maintain the 47 degrees we have it set to. We keep our home at 70 degrees, so it isn't like the cellar is operating in a high temperature environment where it would be more difficult to cool.In addition, the drip tray installation is a head-scratcher. It can only be slid halfway into its specified slot, with the other half sticking out the back. The instructions are vague and there isn't a photo that clearly illustrates how the tray looks when installed.I called Cuisinart's customer service to inquire about the noise and the drip tray. I was "greeted" by a somewhat unfriendly and impatient rep who seemed more concerned about his phone metrics than assisting me. He advised moving the cellar to a different location to see if that remedied the noise problem. His answer for the drip tray was that he couldn't help since he couldn't see it! That was enough for me, so I ended the call and decided to call the following day in hopes of getting a more helpful rep. In the meantime, I did try moving the cellar to a different location, but as I suspected, it didn't affect the noise volume. The call to customer service the next day was much like the first, unfortunately. Though the rep was friendlier, it was apparent he was not trained well. He said he wasn't aware of any noise issues with the CWC-800. That was it. As for the drip pan, he said as long as it wasn't "sticking out far enough to interfere with anything, than it should be okay." Don't expect stellar support should you ever have to call Cuisinart customer service. The CWC-800 is an attractive wine cellar and thus far is keeping our wine cool at our desired 47 degree setting. My wife and I have decided to keep it, though we have our fingers crossed that the noise and constant running of the fan motor won't be a problem in the future.
