By Little Girl Land
I've purchased this icemaker through Amazon about a month, and my family loves it. Both inside and out, it feels like a solid, well-built appliance. Installation was extremely simply. I had been watching for a great price on the Kitchen Aid brand until finding this one, and this product seems even better built than Kitchen Aid which has a higher price tag. On the Orien I even had to change the swing of the door, which I did with absolute no difficulty. It looks great too. I highly recommend this product. This is also the one ice maker that is sold by Sams, but I found a better price through Amazon so purchased it here. Here are some things to consider about this product:1) You need a "floor drain" for this product. Basically, when the ice melts (which it does continuously to keep the ice "fresh"), the water exits the ice maker via a tube that is about four to six inches off the ground. Therefore, you need to be able to feed the tube into drain near floor level (or better yet, a drain that is installed directly into the floor. I don't know if Orien makes a pump, but some Kitchen Aid ice maker models do have a pump to push the water above the drain level so you can push the water into an adjacent sink or drain pipe --- but since all ice makers are notorious for breaking down (be it Kitchen Aid, Whirlpool, Scottsman, Orien, etc), I wanted a model without the extra pump. Keep it simple, and install a floor drain for your ice maker. The Orien, unlike other brands, does come with a very long hose to reach your floor drain.2) The negative review about the ice not breaking apart (but coming out only in sheets) I believe is overstated. Basically, when the ice bin is empty there is enough "fall" for the ice to crash to the bottom of the bin and break apart, but as the bin fills up the ice doesn't break apart because it doesn't have enough fall. This is not a big issue, as a few hits from included scoop (basically using it as an ice pick) causes the cubes to separate quite easily.3) Another issue is that ice really does accumulate at the rear of the bin, causing the ice maker to stop producing ice when the bin is about 2/3 to 3/4 full. Said another way, if I don't occasionally use the scoop to pull the ice toward the front of the bin, the ice maker will cease production of ice at about 18 lbs instead of 25 lbs. While this was initially a little annoying, I'm actually thankful now for this "design flaw" because most of the time I don't need 25 lbs of ice just sitting and melting in my ice maker! Therefore, when I need higher production of ice, I'll occasionally scoop the ice toward the front of the bin so I get a full 25 lbs, but otherwise I allow it to stay "as is" with the lesser production. I have four young children and it has been a hot hot summer, but even so the Orien is more than keeping up with our need for ice.4) The one thing about the product that I do find a little annoying is that there is no "hook" or other place to store the included ice scoop. Some other ice makers have an inside hook on which to hang the scoop, and I am considering adding one --- because the only other options are to keep the scoop in the ice bin (so it gets buried with ice) or keeping it on the counter (which is obviously not ideal). This is not a deal killer, but just a small change that I'd like Orien to make to improve this product. If you can get this product a few hundred dollars less than a KitchenAid or a Whirlpool, I definitely recommend it. And, as I've stated in this review, the product looks and feels like it is a very well made product, even more so than others I've seen.

I bought one of these units and I love that I don't have to buy ice. We have four kids-they play sports, camp, fish, & hunt. We have alot of company and never have run out of ice since we purchased this ice machine.

We have had one for a year now and it's the biggest piece of "melted ice" we have ever owned! I would not recommend one to anyone!
