By Brian C
First, regarding the hood itself:This hood has an amazing capacity for moving air, especially compared to our old microwave/hood combination. Our previous hood was rated at 200cfm and the Zephyr Typhoon is rated at 850cfm. The Typhoon is magnitudes better at moving air out of the kitchen.Aesthetically it is very nice. We have the white hood, which I was unable to find any pictures of before ordering. It turns out that the control panel is primarily gray (not black as see on the stainless model). This was perfect for us because our range happens to also be white with gray plastic bits. The sound level is quieter than our old microwave hood up to about the 4th fan speed setting. The 5th and 6th settings justify the name Typhoon both in the amount of air moved and the sound.Regarding the installation:It is somewhat difficult. There is no template for installing screws. You are just given measurements from the center of the cabinet where to install the 4 screws. That turned out not to be that challenging, but I did test-fit the hood and mark the holes with a pencil before installing the screws in the cabinet, just to be sure.Once the screws are installed you then are directed to lift the hood up into position so the screw heads pass through key-holes in the top of the hood, then sliding the hood back allows it to rest on the narrow part of the key-holes while you tighten the screws. The challenging part is tightening those screws once the hood is in place. The alignment of the holes versus the fans in the cabinet make correctly ligning up a screwdriver basically impossible. If I were doing it again and going to use their recommended installation method I would get some hex-head screws so I could use a ratchet or wrench instead of a screwdriver. My Ikea cabinets happen to have a joint within 1/8" of the screw locations, so I decided to augment the recommended installation by dilling through the adjacent cabinet's shelf-peg holes into the hood, and installing 4 bolts. This seems to me to be a sturdier and a much easier means of installation, if you have someone to help you hold up the hood while you drill.

By Yansheng Wei
Please refer to Brian C's review. I concur, and want to add a few more points.I received mine on Friday, did some prep work on Saturday (like removing the old microwave/hood combo, measurements, etc), and spent the whole day today to install it. With help from my 11 year old son and wife, I was able to heave it up to the cabinet around 6:45 PM. A full day's job.The pre-drilled screw holes are wrong. With typical cabinets, those holes will be just slightly off where the seams are, and will not provide good support. I ended up drill holes more off the edges. But there isn't much room to move, especially for the two front holes as they are close to the fan enclosure.I also don't like the wood screws. Modern cheap cabinets don't have real wood for the bottom, and the screws don't provide good holding power. Plus, it is hard to turn and drive the screws. I used 1/4 " leg bolts, with washer and screws on top.It is more convenient for me with back venting. However there is a big design flaw here. The adapter will guide the exhaust to the opening in the wall, as designed. But there are miles of gaps between the adapter and outer body, and air can be blown back to the hood if the adapter and wall don't have a tight coupling (the usual case). So I made another adapter to close the gaps - another side project. On the plus side, once all installed, it looks good. Actual effectiveness will be known once more testing is done. For now, I assume it is good based on all other reviews. Now thinking back, installing a range hood is not trivial, no matter what. It could be a bit easier with the design issues addressed.Mine also comes with one of the screws holding the transformer to the body being loose. So it doesn't hurt to check and tighten them up.

By David White
Installing the 30" model is not for the feint of heart! The location of the mounting holes (especially on one side) make it impossible to screw in from below. The closeness of the mounting screw holes to the side of the unit were a big problem for me as my cabinet bottom is particle board and bolts had to be used in place of screws. The bolts end up so close to the sides of the cabinets that the nuts could barely rotate. Also, no paper template is provided to make the drilling of holes and placement of ducting easier. All but the last two comments are likely improved in the wider models since there is more room to work inside the unit. Despite all this, I do like the unit. But we ultimately needed many trips to the hardware store and three sets of hands to get the thing installed. It shouldn't be this hard!
